Ma’din Agro-project ‘Seed and Spade’ 2013 was inaugurated by Hon’ble minister of Kerala for Agriculture K.P.Mohanan here in Ma’din Academy on 6th July. The programme was organised as part of the annually conducted “Namukkoru Adukkalathottam” (Let’s have a kitchen garden) initiative in which a package of seed-kits along with manure and farm implements were to be distributed to thousands of families. The project started in 2009 has so far helped thousands of families produce pure vegetables, necessary for their daily consumption. This year, the project will benefit 50000 families.

“Only through food self-sufficiency, can our country develop, and for this, we need to undertake joint efforts,” the minister said. “Each and every voluntary group and institution should come forward to promote agriculture, which has been the backbone of the country,” he added. And the minister also eulogized the services being rendered by Ma’din Academy in promoting agriculture.

The project was inaugurated by distributing a spade and a kit of seeds and manure to Mr.Kunheetu, a traditional farmer in Pookkottur Panchayath. Along with kits of seeds and manure, selected 100 families were given spades as well. Ma’din chairman Sayyid Ibrahimul Khaleel Al Bukhari chaired the function. Ma’din Academia Director Dr. K.k.N.Kurup, Ibrahim Bakhavi Melmuri, Abdul Jaleel Saquafi and Unnippocker offered felicitations.
