Muharram conveys the message of liberation and emancipation of the humanity, said Dr Arshad Islam, head of the Department of History and Civilization, International Islamic University, Malaysia.
Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Historical Significance of Muharram’ organized by the Madin Academy as part of its Muharram programs, he said Muharram should be greeted as a source of relief and hope for the modern grief-stricken society entrapped in the social, cultural and economic crises.
“In the history of Islam, Muharram finds its significance straight from the lifetime of the first human being Adam (sa). Throughout the history of prophets till the last prophet Muhammad (SA), all societies have attained their liberation in the days of Muharram. For long, Muharram has served as a symbol of the rising of the oppressed”, he added.
Madin Academia for Research and International Studies director Dr K.K.N. Kurup presided. Model Academy Islamic Department head Sayyid Muhammad Farooq Jamalullaili, Dr Husain Randathani, S.S.F. state president Jaleel saquafi, Madin Spanish Academy director Hamid Hussein, Griffith University fellow Abbas Panakkal, and Madin Media School director Lathif Poovathikkal also spoke.
